Xesht, We That Are One Boss Guide
Phase Breakdown
- Phase 1: Phase 1 — Full KitTriggerFight startMechanicXesht cycles through most of his moveset early: a channeled Sonic Wave (physical projectile), a more dangerous Triple Blast (fired three times), a fire meteor, a lightning shockwave, cold projectiles that can Freeze, and a burrow-chase-clap attack. He also periodically summons the other Breach Lords, Tul (freezing icicles) and Esh (expanding lightning), one at a time.CounterStay close and circle behind him, most of his attacks have long aim/turn animations that a close, mobile position punishes hard. Dodge perpendicular to projectiles rather than straight back. Run wide circles around the arena edge if he burrows and starts chasing. Bring a Freeze charm to counter Tul's icicles.
- Phase 2: Phase 2 — Arm SlamsTriggerAround 50-60% healthMechanicMultiple portal-arms (Breach Hands) rise from the ground and slam down in sequence after a delay, dealing heavy damage, widely called the single most dangerous attack in the fight.CounterOutrange the slam if you can, or use a single well-timed dodge roll per arm, don't spam dodge rolls, since you'll need several in a row and rolling too early leaves you exposed for the next one. Ignore the boss entirely during this sequence and focus purely on the arms.
- Phase 3: Phase 3 — Combo SummonTriggerBelow roughly 60% healthMechanicXesht chains Tul's ice cones and Esh's expanding lightning simultaneously instead of one at a time, flooding the floor with overlapping hazards.CounterThis is where undergeared builds die, it's primarily a speed check. You need enough sustained damage to burn through this phase before the stacking hazards overwhelm your positioning options.
Most Common Deaths
- Standing still or over-committing damage during the Arm Slam sequence instead of dedicating full attention to dodging it
- Running out of clear speed during the sub-60% combo phase as Tul and Esh's hazards stack up faster than they can be avoided
- Getting frozen by Tul's icicles with no Freeze charm equipped, leaving you vulnerable to a follow-up hit
Full Fight Guide
Full Fight Guide
Xesht, We That Are One is the pinnacle boss of the Breach mechanic, fought in the Twisted Domain. Getting there requires collecting 300 Breach Splinters, which combine into a Breachstone, place it into the Realmgate (always located next to the Ziggurat Refuge on your Atlas) to open the portal. Inside, you fight through waves of Breach monsters to extend a countdown timer before reaching the boss arena itself.
The fight has 4 difficulty levels, unlocked and scaled through the Breach-specific Atlas Passive Tree, higher difficulty means significantly more boss health, but a much better loot table in return.
Who is Xesht?
Xesht is the leader of the Hiveborn and the product of a failed fusion of the Breachlords—Xoph, Esh, Tul, and Uul-Netol crammed into one body. Because the fusion never completed, those wills clash against each other, which is what makes Xesht violent and ravenous. This lore detail is not just flavor: it explains why the fight suddenly throws ice cones and lightning at you. Xesht’s own death line—“Ugh…! We That Failed…”—captures the essence of the encounter: a fractured fusion arguing with itself.
In the 0.5 Breach rework (“Waking the Dreamer”), Breach is a war between the Keepers of the Flame and the Hiveborn, and Xesht is the apex of that system. Defeating him grants Breach Atlas Passive Points and is the only way to get his exclusive gem.
How to Unlock Xesht
The unlock chain is fully gated and none of it is optional:
- Farm Breach Splinters: Run Atlas maps with Breach weighted on your passive tree. Breach monsters drop Breach Splinters, plus Hiveblood and the rarer Wombgifts.
- Splinters become a Wombgift: A full stack auto-converts. If a stack looks “stuck,” split one splinter off and merge it back to trigger the conversion—a common false “bug.”
- Craft a Breachstone at the Genesis Tree: Turn the Wombgift in at the Genesis Tree. The Breachstone must be in your inventory for the Breach stronghold to appear on the Atlas—this is the most common “Breach is bugged” false alarm.
- Climb the Breach Domain ladder: A Breachstone opens the Breach Domains, escalating from Breach Hive to Sky Hive to Hive Fortress. The Hive Fortress is a 24-wave defense around Ailith, First of the Keepers, followed by an escape-maze phase.
- Defeat Tul and Esh for the key: The paired Breachlords reward the key that unlocks Xesht in the Twisted Domain.
Difficulty Tiers
Xesht has three tiers set by how many Breach Splinters you invest when opening the encounter:
| Tier | Splinters | Approximate HP | Intended Audience |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 50 | ~2.90M | First clears, learning the moveset |
| 2 | 100 | ~6.48M | Geared mid-game, farming the gem |
| 3 | 150 | ~14.5M | Endgame builds, max reward / Uul-Netol’s farming |
The jump from Tier 1 to Tier 3 is brutal—over 5x the health. Do not bring a Tier 1 build to a Tier 3 stone; the fight has hard DPS-check transitions where a slow build simply runs out of room.
Gearing checklist before you attempt this
- A Freeze charm specifically counters Tul’s icicle summons
- 25%+ movement speed on boots makes the dodge timing across every phase meaningfully easier
- Layered defenses (Armour, Block, or Energy Shield) plus a source of Life Leech or regeneration help you survive extended fights where multiple mechanics overlap
- Remember pinnacle bosses cannot be paused, if you need to step away mid-fight, log out rather than pausing, and be ready to resume immediately when you log back in
Phase-by-Phase Breakdown
Phase 1 — Full Kit (100–50% Health)
Xesht opens the fight by cycling through most of his moveset. The golden rule from experienced players: stay close to Xesht. Most of his dangerous attacks have long wind-up animations where he visibly aims at you. If you are hugging him, you can circle behind and force a slow 180-degree rotation, dodging the attack entirely.
Sonic Wave Finger Gun
Xesht channels a ball of sonic energy and fires a single physical-damage projectile directly at you. There are two mitigation strategies:
- Circle behind him as he fires—this is the easiest and lowest-risk option.
- Dodge roll perpendicular to the projectile as it is released. Dodge left, right, or ideally behind Xesht. Do not dodge straight back.
Triple Finger Blast
This is significantly more dangerous than the single Finger Gun. Xesht telegraphs with two glowing lights at the ends of his hands, then fires three volleys in succession, rotating quickly toward you between rounds. The best strategy is to stay close and time your dodge rolls to pass behind Xesht, forcing him to spin around for each shot. If you are far away, dodge perpendicular to the blasts. You will likely need multiple dodge rolls—most characters can survive one hit, but not all three.
Tul’s Icicles
A large gray hand with puppet strings rises through the floor. Tul shoots freezing icicles that deal Cold damage and can Freeze you. Getting frozen in the Xesht fight is a death sentence because you cannot dodge follow-up attacks. There are two ways to handle this:
- If the hand is close, dodge behind it where the fan of projectiles cannot hit you. It rotates slowly, so you exit the danger zone quickly.
- If the hand is far, run down a hallway and side-step the individual icicles from distance.
A Freeze charm is mandatory for this fight. Do not attempt Xesht without one.
Esh’s Storm
A blue hand rises from the floor holding a crackling ball of lightning. A ring of electric energy expands rapidly from it, then detonates for heavy Lightning damage. Two ways to avoid it:
- Get far away from the hand to outrange the explosion.
- Move very close to the hand (right next to it), inside the ring, before it detonates—the blast travels outward, so you are safe at the center.
Time your movement carefully.
Xoph’s Fireball
Xesht materializes a large fireball above his head that slowly homes in on your position and then falls. This is one of the easiest attacks to avoid—sidestep or run around Xesht. The fireball travels slowly and has trouble changing direction once it starts moving. However, the explosion leaves burning ground for several seconds, so do not loiter near the impact site.
Burrow Chase
Xesht digs into the ground, becoming untargetable, and chases you underground. After a short pursuit, he erupts back out with a violent clap, sending a horizontal fissure (ground slice) in front of him. The best response is to run in a wide circle around the arena. Keep moving until you see him emerge. The ground slices shoot out from his emergence point, so maintaining distance by running ensures they miss. Once the attack finishes, resume your offense.
Hand Slam
Xesht’s most dangerous Phase 1 attack. He summons a large pink hand through the floor and channels, standing still. A glowing purple circle appears on the ground beneath you as a warning. After a delay, the hand crashes down for massive Chaos and Physical damage—often a one-shot. When you see the glow or hear the distinctive booming sound cue, move away from that spot immediately. Keep moving until the hand slams down where you were.
Phase 2 — Armageddon (50–60% Health)
When Xesht reaches roughly 50–60% health, he stops in place and begins casting a swirling purple portal above his head. This is the phase transition—you can freely damage him during this brief channel, so pour on whatever DPS you have.
After the portal finishes, Xesht gains the Armageddon ability while retaining all Phase 1 attacks:
Armageddon: Xesht tears open multiple portals on the arena floor, and enormous skeletal arms emerge to slam down in sequence. Each arm slams a specific area indicated by the portal’s position. At higher encounter difficulties, more arms appear at once, covering a larger portion of the arena.
This is widely considered the single most dangerous attack in the fight. The best defense is constant movement. As soon as you see portals forming under or around you, run. Do not stand still trying to weave between them—outrun the pattern. If you cannot outrun it, use a single well-timed dodge roll per arm. Do not spam dodge rolls, because you will need several in a row and rolling too early leaves you exposed when the next arm descends. Ignore Xesht entirely during this sequence and focus purely on dodging the arms.
Phase 3 — Combo Summon (Below ~60% Health)
In the final phase, Xesht chains Tul’s ice cones and Esh’s expanding lightning simultaneously instead of one at a time, flooding the floor with overlapping hazards. All of his Phase 1 and Phase 2 abilities remain active.
This is where undergeared builds die. It is primarily a DPS check: you need enough sustained damage to burn through Xesht’s remaining health before the stacking hazards overwhelm your positioning options. If your damage is too low, the simultaneous Tul + Esh hazards will eventually cover so much of the arena that there is nowhere safe to stand.
If you are struggling at this phase, consider upgrading your gear before attempting higher-tier Breachstones. The fight is not purely mechanical—there is a minimum damage threshold required to clear the DPS check.
Preparation & Gear Checklist
- Freeze Charm: Mandatory. Tul’s icicles can Freeze you, and being Frozen during any of Xesht’s other attacks is effectively a death sentence.
- 25%+ Movement Speed on Boots: Makes dodging every phase’s mechanics significantly easier. The difference between 20% and 30% movement speed is very noticeable in this fight.
- Chaos Resistance: Xesht deals primarily Chaos and Physical damage. Capping Chaos Resistance (75%) dramatically improves survivability against his Hand Slam and physical-impact attacks.
- Physical Mitigation: Armour or Physical Damage Reduction helps against his slam attacks and Finger Gun projectiles.
- Lightning and Cold Resistance: Esh’s Storm and Tul’s Icicles deal their respective element types. Cap both at 75%.
- Layered Defenses: Armour, Block, or Energy Shield plus a source of Life Leech or regeneration. Extended fights with overlapping mechanics require sustained recovery.
- DPS Check: You need enough damage to clear the Phase 3 combo before hazards overwhelm you. If you are failing at this phase repeatedly, upgrade your damage before trying again.
- Pinnacle Boss Rules: You cannot pause the fight. If you need to step away, log out (Alt-F4 works). Xesht will not recover HP while you are logged out, and you can re-enter the fight when you log back in.
Common Mistakes
- Standing still or over-committing damage during the Arm Slam sequence: The Armageddon arms are the deadliest attack in the fight. During this sequence, 100% of your attention should be on dodging arms, not on dealing damage to Xesht.
- Getting Frozen without a Freeze charm: Tul’s icicles can Freeze you, and being Frozen during a Hand Slam or Arm Slam is lethal. A Freeze charm is not optional for this fight.
- Fighting at range instead of staying close: Most of Xesht’s attacks have long aim animations that a close, mobile position punishes. At range, his Finger Guns and Triple Blast are much harder to dodge because you have less time to react to his tracking.
- Spamming dodge rolls during Armageddon: You need one well-timed dodge roll per arm. If you burn your immunity frames on the first arm, the second or third arm will catch you during recovery.
- Attempting Tier 2 or Tier 3 without adequate DPS: The Phase 3 combo is a DPS check. If you cannot burn through Xesht’s health before hazards overwhelm you, drop to a lower tier and farm better gear first.
Loot Table & Rewards
Uul-Netol’s Embrace is the chase drop and the reason everyone farms Xesht. It is a Lineage Support Gem (not body armour, despite the name) that grants supported skills 40% of Physical damage as extra Chaos damage, and causes them to Break Armour equal to 20% of the Chaos damage dealt. For Physical-damage builds, this is a massive multiplier. It only drops from Xesht, making the boss the sole supply source. In the Runes of Aldur league, it has traded for hundreds of Divine Orbs when supply is tight.
Otherworldly Book of Knowledge: On your first clear of each tier, Xesht drops one of these, granting 2 Breach Atlas Passive Points each. This is how you fund a dedicated Breach Atlas tree.
Breach Uniques and Crafting Materials: Hiveblood, Wombgifts, and tier-appropriate Breach drops scale up with the tier you ran. According to poe2db, Xesht’s unique drop pool includes: Beyond Reach, Xoph’s Blood, The Pandemonius, Choir of the Storm, Hand of Wisdom and Action, Skin of the Loyal, and Controlled Metamorphosis. Additional drops include Xesht’s Reliquary Key, Xoph’s Pyre, and Tul’s Stillness.
Breach Rings and Catalysts: The Twisted Domain leading up to the fight drops Breach Rings and catalysts (Chayula’s Catalyst, Flesh Catalyst, Uul-Netol’s Catalyst, Xoph’s Catalyst, Reaver Catalyst, Neural Catalyst) commonly. These are valuable for crafting and sell well on the market.
Vruun, Marshal of Xesht: In Stabilised Breaches (fill the Breach bar to 100%), this mini-boss spawns and drops extra Wombgifts—useful for crafting more Breachstones to keep the Xesht loop going.
Tips for Specific Builds
Melee / Close-Range Builds
You are in your comfort zone for this fight—staying close to Xesht is the recommended strategy for everyone. Circle behind him during his Finger Gun and Triple Blast animations. The Hand Slam is your biggest threat at close range because the purple targeting circle appears directly under you. When you see it, move immediately—do not try to finish your attack combo first. During Armageddon, treat the arms as your only priority. Melee range does not help against the arms; you need to be running regardless.
Ranged / Projectile Builds
You have an easier time during the Tul and Esh summons (you can attack while repositioning) but a harder time during the Finger Gun and Triple Blast sequences (these are harder to dodge at range because the projectiles travel faster relative to your reaction time). Consider closing distance during Xesht’s channel animations and only kiting during the Breach Lord summons. Skills that bounce, chain, or have homing properties (like Spark) are ideal because they maintain damage while you are dodging.
Spellcaster / Caster Builds
Chaos and Physical spells are the optimal choice given Xesht’s damage types and the utility of Chaos damage for bypassing enemy resistances. Cold spells can Freeze the Breach Lord summons but are less effective against Xesht himself. Fire spells work but compete visually with the burning ground from Xoph’s Fireball, making it harder to see enemy attack telegraphs. Totems and minions are excellent for this fight—they can serve as decoys for Tul’s icicles and give you extra time to position during Esh’s Storm. A totem placed away from you draws some of the targeted attacks, creating breathing room during the Phase 3 combo.
Notable Drops
- Uul-Netol's Embrace — a Lineage Support Gem and one of the most sought-after chase rewards of the current league
- Breach Rings and catalysts (Chayula's Catalyst, Flesh Catalyst) drop commonly in the Twisted Domain leading up to the fight
- Otherworldly Book of Knowledge on your first clear
